Started off great, ended horribly.

I was so exited about this book in the first part. But somehow at around 70% everything just felt off and the ending got completely butchered by bad writing and it seemed to be wrapped up too quickly.

I love Cai, I love past Devon, I really liked first few chapters Devon. After that half she did felt like she was pushed into a sterotypical box of butch bi strong tall girl who shows no emotions.

Cai and Salem were the reason I kept reading. Young Devon and Cai carried the whole book.

I felt like they needed more time in the ravenscar villa to go in more depth. The "romance" plot between Hester and Devon felt really great in the beginning but forced in the end.

Gave it 3 stars cause some one liners were wonderful and made you think. Those will stick with me for a while.

I rated this book 4 Stars because it is a well-developed dark urban fantasy story. It follows the life of Devon Fairweather. Her and her patriarchal family live isolated from society, all living as Book Eaters. You read that right, its not enough to read them (because they can’t read; they eat to retain knowledge). Sunyi Dean brings this stand-alone book, painting a portrait of patriarchies that demands ruthless oppression on women, no value for familial ties and men are considered replaceable. Until Devon. She demands retribution even if she must do it herself.
