Gramps may be my favorite character of this entire book.
I don't know what I expected from this book, but what I got was wayyyy better.

okay

I read this book in the span of a 4 hours andddddd it was so bad it was good.

It was stressful and made me cry. it also made me sooooooooooooo annoyed.

I didn’t know anything about this book before I started it. I read Colleen Hoovers books without any knowledge bc her books usually have a lot of twist and turns.

I cried bc I felt for the mom, so unhappy with her life and didn’t feel like she could do anything to make it better and then it just gets worst.

The death of the husband and sister really was unexpected.

AND ALSO SO FREAKING FRUSTRATING?

The affair they had really frustrated me bc we are painting this perfect family photo and their deaths really were out of no where except the perfect way for one of the main character, Morgan and her love interest Jonah to get together.

and the way Morgan handled it was frustrating.
I think any sane person would have wanted to know everything about the betrayal.

Your husband of 17 YEARS and your sister?!?????
THE SISTER THAT YOU RAISED????????

But Morgan didn’t read any text messages, she didn’t search her sisters house, she didn’t read the letters- THE LETTERS!!!!!!!! That was so annoying. She didn’t even want to tell Clara her daughter the betrayal to make sure she didn’t view them any less???????

miss girllllllllll they showed you no respect. Why are you respecting them in the after life?????????

The flashback scene with the painting where the sister told her that she knew her husband better than her????????????

no no no, Morgan literally raised her sister and then her sister betrays her for could be YEARS?! and she brushes it away with no thought????

Her sister lied to her face, lied to Jonah, took credit for the life advice she told her daughter and had the audacity to still expect her sister to babysit for her WHILE SHE GOES AND DUCKS HER HUSBAND IN A HOTEL THAT HUSBAND NEVER TOOK HER TO BTW UNDER THE PRETENSE OF STARTING HER NEW JOB?????

nah- how Morgan handled that made me so mad. She didn’t have any anger, didn’t have any feelings toward the whole situation except to make sure Clara didn’t find out.

she destroyed the door and the painting and that was the closest I have ever felt towards having any respect for her.

I wish we got better understanding as to why they did that, not just “your father was a good mad but made bad choices” no no no.

They were literally painted like a happy family, but why wasn’t the sister jealous, or why was the husband described to be sooo in love with her then???

she was described as preferring to be wallpaper, but miss girl- your husband and sister disrespected you, your daughter is now currently disrespecting you and you continue to do nothing. Even at the end, she was looking for jobs but not really any growth. Where is the strong mother figure who actually does something with her life. “My passion is finding my passion” what is that suppose to mean????? You are going to be a house mom again raising your sisters and husband baby in the house your sister bought furniture for your husband??????????? READ THE GODAMN LETTERS.

The daughters point of view was annoying, and she only talked about the death of her aunt and only near the end mentioned missing her dad. And she even said she didn’t care that they were having an affair as much as her mom and Johan were. like???? no respect for your mom, which fair because her mom didn’t do anything to be respected. but to say you respected your dad enough not to drink alcohol but couldn’t care less if your mom was there… it’s givinggggg steamroller vibes. It’s giving manipulation. It’s giving entitlement, her father dies, her aunt dies and all she cares about how much money she needs to go to college to follow her dreams.

I could go on and on.

3 stars

i hated it so much I liked it.

I really wish it wasn’t split pov, I couldn’t care less about the daughter. I wanted a redemption story for Morgan, I wanted her to sell the house, or at least break down all the walls her husband said he liked but she hated. I wanted her to trash her sisters house, I wanted her to find her sisters diary explaining how much her sister hated her. To explain the affair, and how her sister loved manipulating Morgan bc it was easy. and then I wanted Morgan to rise above that. To FEEL hate towards her sister, to forgive her near the end bc she understood that she was more capable than everyone thought she was. except for Jonah, he always knew and that’s what he loved about her. I wanted so much more for Morgan but instead we got, “she’s taking it slow”
You have been taking it slow for your whole life, it’s time to put yourself first.
