Some fans will love this simply because of what it it, however, Creation Myths feels very inconsistent. At times I felt immersed in the world of the Dark Crystal and at others it felt like I was reading something completely different.

A real hilight of the narrative was the focus on Augra, which felt true to her character and did a good job of expanding on the lore of the world. Her son Raunip was also a welcome addition to the story and the art style was very nice.

In saying this, the short stories about the Gelfling felt unnecessary and offbeat. They did not reflect the world we have come to know and love but felt separate from it. I particularly found the pages of text unfit for the comic medium and broke my immersion in the story.

Some parts are good...some aren’t...That’s pretty much it.

A gorgeous look into the myths and beginnings of Thra! The writing is fun, imaginative and reminds me of old folk tales and fables, the art is beautiful and the layouts really interesting - all in all a very enjoyable comic!

The Dark Crystal is my favorite movie in the entire universe, so it pains me to say that I hated this book. Overall, I found the stories in this collection to be boring and too bizarre for my taste. I couldn't stand the addition of Aughra's son and, without characters worth caring about, I had to force myself to read this entire book. I'm grateful for anything about The Dark Crystal to exist in the world, but this just wasn't for me. I'll stick to the movie, thanks.

Is there a way to give this more than 5 stars?

LOVE this book. Love love love.

The story hits every single one of my mythology/folklore nerd buttons, expertly.

The art is gorgeous and evocative.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Continuing my deep dive into the world of The Dark Crystal after I devoured the Netflix show, I am reading everything that came before. This graphic novel is part one of two, and is gorgeously illustrated. A cloaked figure tells the reader of the myths of the planet Thra, in several mini-stories like "How the Gelfling Maid Got her Wings" etc.

Highly recommended if you love Dark Crystal and ever wondered things like .. How did Kira get wings? Where did Aughra come from? What was Thra like before the crystal cracked? And a lot of other questions. Really neat stories. Love them.

Second read : We are watching the show on Netflix so I needed a bit of a review on the creation myths. Really interesting to see the events that led to the corruption of the Crystal of Truth and the appearance of the Skeksis. I think it’s easier having read these to understand the show. I know the movie like the back of my hand and it helps during the show, so I would at least watch that first. Detail is very much taken into account and so far is very faithful. This is something from my childhood that I watched over and over again with my dad. I liked the unusual fantasy type stuff as a kid. It’s still with me.
