I'm going, to be honest, I didn't have an intention of reading this book. I finally gave in because I saw it so much on bookstagram and everyone seemed to love it. After reading, I see why. This book was so damn good and I can't believe I was going to just let this greatness pass me by. I loved everything about this book, the characters, the romance, the storyline. I think my favorite part, besides the romance which is always a favorite for me, is the fact that the story focused heavily on the hardships that musicians and bands face in the industry. I didn't expect the book to go as deep into this part of the world as it did or take the twists and turns that it did, but I greatly appreciated it because it brought this situation to the forefront.

I will close this review out by saying read this book because I was internally squealing from the cuteness of the romance and crying for how the characters were treated. So if you want a book that gives you some great emotions, I highly recommend checking this out.

I loved the behind-the-scenes look at a boy band. The management, the diets, the lack of freedom… every second of their lives was controlled. Through it all, the guys stayed friends, and we get to know each and every one of them really well through this journey. I also loved the the discussion of PrEP and using condoms for HIV prevention.

It’s so amazing when co-authored books come together so seamlessly. I’m a fan of these guys!

Thank you Netgalley and Wednesday Books for proving me a free audiobook for review.

I won't lie, I almost dnf'd this a couple times about 15% of the way through because it wasn't what I was in the mood for, but I'm so glad I changed my mind because this was such a great book, with a really important storyline. This wasn't just about two members of a boyband falling in love, it was so much more than that. This had a lot of talk about censorship within the media, and how labels can control not only the music you put out, but your lives as well.

This had triggers for homophobia as well as drug and alcohol use and abuse.

fuck it, five stars. this book is VERY MUCH itself, by which i mean, it may not be for everyone: it’s melodramatic and loud and unsubtle. but as a lifelong queer 1D stan who has read approximately 10000 fics about nhl star jack zimmermann coming out, i am probably Thee target audience, and i am PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE that it worked on me!!!! it’s heavier and angstier than i expected, kind of like a soap opera version of a larry fic. sometimes i laughed at how ridiculous it all was, but it absolutely won me over: the climax had me literally fist-pumping and yelping in triumph, wee tears in my eyes. just! cathartic and juicy and good shit.

I fell in love with the characters in this band. I gave the book 4 stars because I feel like I want more, I would recommend this to anyone who has felt like they had the need to hide themselves. I have definitely never been in a boy band before but I have kept my sexuality hidden to keep others comfortable. Reading this was comforting, it was like my old closeted self wasn’t alone anymore. That being said I do see how this book could be triggering to others. I honestly would love to see a sequel to this book! What a great first read for 2022.
