It was really sweet and heartwarming and what I needed to hear right now. Favorite sections were about mental health and body image. Gave me a new perspective on self harm. Honestly, I wish polyamory was something she talked about, since she thanked her 3 partners in the acknowledgements!

I liked this book best in the parts where Young Sophie writes about issues Adult Sophie still grapples with. In those sections, I found Adult Sophie beautifully open, humble, and honest - all things young people need and deserve from adults in their lives. In most of the other parts, I found Adult Sophie smugly self-congratulatory and needlessly condescending.
I do empathize: Adult Sophie's braggadocio reads like the frantic posturing of someone who knows they don't have it all together and desperately wants to keep anyone else from noticing. And maybe Adult Sophie felt that was what her younger self needed to hear from her. But if my younger self received a lot of those letters from my adult self, I would feel even worse about my current situation because I would know that I grew up to become kind of an asshole.

This is a great book for anyone struggling with mental health, and especially those that struggle with their inner child. This book had great, wise lessons, admitted there are still things with which the adult version of Sophie deals, and an acknowledgment that even older Sophie will likely know more.
