A good collection of good ideas and reflections (meditations? that's the last chapter..). A few moments of new insights, but overall, I felt this was a good read but not totally new, original insights I could use.
The book includes a review of some of the "existential threats" - climate, nukes, bio, info/cyber.. And a major theme is the loss of narrative for the species.

Thought provoking, but in comparison to Sapiens, a bit of a let down, but Sapiens would be a tough one to beat.
This book comes across as a collection of lectures covering a wide spectrum of different topics related to this century and how things have changed in each in recent years. Because of the wide range of topics, as a reader I found about 1/3 of the topics extremely interesting (and the lectures just starting to get interesting when finished), about 1/3 of the topics extremely boring (and the lectures seemed interminable) and the rest of moderate interest. I used the audiobook, so the lecture model fit well, but it was not easy to skim or skip around (I would listen to everything to make sure I didn't miss anything). My advice is if the topic is not of interest, skip the lecture and go on. The topics of most interest of me were those relating to the changes caused by improvements in technology (AI, communications, scientific understanding). I thought the coverage relating to climate change was lacking (much more said about terrorism). An pretty much nothing about the potential of a pandemic changing things (most people would not have predicted this).
Εξαιρετικό βιβλίο, στα χνάρια των δύο προηγούμενων (Homo Sapiens και Homo Deus). Σίγουρα αξίζει να διαβαστεί, με μερικές επιφυλάξεις, η βασικότερη (αν και όχι πιο ουσιαστική) ως προς το 21ο και τελευταίο μέρος, όπου μαθαίνουμε πώς ο συγγραφέας κατάφερε να βρει την ηρεμία παίρνοντας βαθιές ανάσες με κλειστά μάτια (άνθρωποι που έχουν ζήσει σε καθεστώς ομηρίας ή/και πλήρους αισθητηριακής στέρησης λένε ότι όντως βοηθάει). Μπράβο του, δε μπορώ να πω, αλλά π.χ. άλλοι αυνανίζονται μέχρις αναισθησίας για να το πετύχουν κι άλλοι κάνουν χρήση βαρβιτουρικών (υποθέτω επίσης καταλήγουν ελαφρώς ή βαρέως αναισθητοποιημένοι). Ό,τι δουλεύει στον καθένα... και η υποκειμενική εμπειρία χαλάει λίγο τη μαγιά της (λίγο αφ' υψηλού και ολύμπιας) αντικειμενικότητας που έχτιζε με κόπο επί 2,95 βιβλία περίπου.
Συνεχίζουμε να τον αγαπάμε, αλλά εμείς αντί για γιόγκα χαλαρώνουμε με ντερλίκωμα, μεθύσι και θορυβώδεις συζητήσεις που ξεκινάνε από τα μπαλκόνια της γειτόνισσας (το πώς θα το ερμηνεύσετε αυτό είναι αποκλειστικά δικό σας θέμα), και δια μέσου κρίσεων επί πρακτικών της Ρωμαϊκής αυτοκρατορίας (όπως η εύκολη απόδοση ιδιότητας ρωμαίου πολίτη που κατέληξε να αποδυναμώσει την ίδια την ιδιότητα του πολίτη και δημιούργησε νέες ελίτ) καταλήγουν στο γιατί οι αντιεμβολιαστές είναι ντουγάνια. Γνώμη μου, που λένε και πλημμελώς εγγράμματοι.

As others have said, this book covers a broad sweeping range of topics and is dense wtih questions, however, the lessons are actually mostly open ended and require much further deliberation and self searching. If you wanted 21 lessons to quote and pin on your fridge or post on Instagram you may want to go elsewhere.
