Easy to read book, I didn't particularly like her style/attitude in writing. Some of the points were good but to me, they weren't very new or radical ideas. I think the book could have been summed up pretty easily into one chapter.

Uses only masculine language for God and pastors (therefore, only feminine language for pastors’ spouses).

Uses scripture-based slavery language: “The literal implication of slave means we behave “as a real slave”—labor as one, defer to those we serve, are diligent to please and not offend, and act as if we have no privileges at all—“

Continually uses “lame” as an insult.

Hatmaker and her theology has grown more progressive and expansive since this was published in 2001. This is a historical snapshot of her theology as a evangelical pastor’s wife as they discern how God is calling them to plant a church in Austin, TX.

Jen is one of my favorite authors and this book certainly does not disappoint! I think God opened the eyes of Jen & Brandon to truly figure out how to do church His way. This is a must read for anyone who truly wants their life to make an eternal difference.

This. This is exactly the way I have been feeling about church. I felt like Jen was in my head from start to finish. Love. Serve. Be new.

"Do we really need to be fed more of the Word, or are we simply undernourished from an absence of living the word? Maybe we love God, but are we loving others?"

She writes like you are sitting in her kitchen talking to her. Her informality makes complicated concepts come to life and become practical. Jen is aware of her own faults and doesn't come off as a know it all with the answers.

Great read that is changing my heart.

I love Jen Hatmaker's style of writing. I feel like I am listening to and talking to a friend. God's perfect path for us isn't always easy and after reading this book and 7 I find myself waiting for the opportunity and listening a little closer. I am practicing extravagant generosity in my church and now just keeping my eyes open to little ways I can minister in my every day life. Thanks for the truth and honesty about all things not being easy but thank for also showing that they are necessary.
