A beautiful story of love, loss, and food. Zauner’s prose is so evocative and rich it feels like you’re seeing and tasting and smelling everything she puts on the page. The fact that someone can be such a talented musician and then write such a brilliant memoir is infuriatingly impressive.

Please be aware of how overt the illness and death of her mother is in this book. I feel like the recommendations and also the blurb didn’t prepare me for either how much dull listing of ingredients of food there would be, or how intimately I would have to witness a woman die.

easily the saddest book I've read in a while. However, its so inspiring in how she reconnects to her korean roots and that connection she has with her mother. Brutally honest.

This book brought me the visibility I needed while suffering from the grief of my own mother who had passed away from cancer several months prior. My world was honestly just darkness and this honest portrayal helped me process my own emotions and find a path to being a human again.
