Moving reflection on grief, family, identity, memory, and people who love deeply and imperfectly. I appreciated her humanizing portrayals of both her parents and her younger self. The food descriptions made me hungry, also!

This pulled me in from the very beginning and didn't let me go the whole way through. Beautiful, sad, touching and carefully written memoir of a Korean American musician and writer struggling and learning in her relationship with her mother.

The story is touching and the writing is a masterpiece.

Really beautiful. The relationship between Michelle and her mother feels very similar to mine and my mom so reading this felt really tender during some bits. Really enjoyed this life story!

This was an incredible memoir. The writing is just absolutely beautiful. The constant descriptions of food felt so real and passionate, but the descriptions of grief were also so incredibly real, and heartbreaking. I did sometimes get a bit lost in the writing, but I did think this was an incredible read.

She talks about food a lot and it all sounded so delicious and made me soooo hungry. Eloquently balanced the complicated relationship with her mother with the love they had for each other. Beautifully written. Reminded me of leg but more poetic. A lovely memorial of her mother, their relationship, and their culture.

This is a gorgeously written and heartbreaking memoir exploring the depths of family, grief, and trying to exist as yourself. Truly beautiful.

(I do not give star ratings for memoirs)
