If I could give this book 10 stars I would! It was so deeply emotional, and gut-wrenchingly heart warming. It gives you a deep sense of appreciation for culture, and the importance of loving those near to you while they’re still here.

as someone who is so incredibly attached to her mother and has an awkward (to say the least) relationship with her father, my heart has been crushed and the itty bitty pieces found their way back to each other as the book came to an end. so so good.

Crying in Hmart has got me crying in Hmart. If you are a second gen East Asian immigrant, this book will make you cry. It was so painfully relatable and will make you want to hug your mom, no matter how much you hate her. Book of the year.

I finished this book a week ago but I could not bring myself to write a review :-)
this just felt so so close with obviously certain differences but the main thing which is the awareness that your mom is the one you will love the most and the one who will love you the most as well as the person who you'll probably have the most difficult relationship with and the one it takes you years to see as a person just like you, a complete person besides the one thats always being your biggest supporter and critic,,,,, yeah it hit! 
this book, Michelle's story and her feelings were like a little glimpse inside of my mind and my worst fears as well, I was almost crying during 80% of this. I don't think I can accurately judge the narrative or the writing because I feel like I'm critiquing her real feelings and healing process? I saw myself too much on this.

I was also listening to the audiobook that was read by the author so I think that added to the experience

A very emotional and complex look into a multi-cultured mother-daughter relationship, how it can struggle but also contain so much love, and incredible amount of grief.
This book is very detailed and that helps capture the story and feel like you're living it, but also is very detailed about the stuff I wasn't as interested in. The story's non linear elements, particularly at the start didn't really do it for me.
Overall a really good read.

this was gorgeously constructed and devastatingly sad. what really did it for me is that the ending was so good. she could finally let go and live her own life, settle down etc. many predominantly sad books in the minority with happy endings are only the last 2 pages. and that isnt enough for me! i need to bathe in that happiness so I can even and ease out the stress and sadness from before. this one was like over 40 pages and that was super amazing. worth the read

Zauner writes in a way that really allows connection with her emotion. If you’ve lost a parent I would highly recommend being in a good headspace before reading this.
