Wish I would have had a map to try and place everything. Glad I had the character breakdown in the back of the book. The first 300 pages was just trying to piece the world together and then it really picked up. Enjoyed it ok, really looking forward to the rest of the series.

A Little Hatred is my 7th? book by Joe Abercrombie and his books keep getting better and better. Unfortunately, I also have realized he will probably never be a five star author as all of his novels are over the top grotesque, to be point where I need breathers in between reading them. In spite of the blood and gore and genuinely dislikable characters, the plots and character work are impeccable. A Little Hatred picks up about 20 or so years at the end of the First Law Trilogy, and the world is in the middle of an industrial revolution. The reader will see many familiar characters which was a lot of fun and I'm excited to finish the trilogy.

The balance of a larger cast of characters was done well, with most of the major players getting solid development. The plot struggled to really do anything beyond advance those developments until the final act of the book. The different perspectives of events was a great touch, that added more weight to the tense parts of the story, especially for the major characters involved.
