Joe Abercrombie said, “What if Game of Thrones but everyone’s worse and somehow hotter?” and I ate it up.

This book drips sarcasm, tragedy, and bad decisions. The characters are brutalized by life and somehow still hilarious. Rekke and the Crown Prince were my favorite. Chaotic good and tragic bad, if you will, while Leo absolutely needed to be sat down and given a long lecture about humility.

The beginning is slow but once it hits? It hits.

Elite worldbuilding. Disgustingly good character work. Raunchy, razor sharp humor. I’m already frothing for the sequel.
