Joe has really figured out how to be ultra-entertaining. Much better paced than The Blade Itself, and easier to follow than The Last Argument of Kings. Unforunately, it's a bit thematically weak (or the original nihilist attitudes have just been been beaten to death.) Nothing particularly insightful is said about labor reform/capitalism. Excited to read the rest of trilogy though.
People named Joe can write the best dialogue. I'm a huge fan of Joe Lansdale and love his work. His dialogue is great and always a pleasure to read.
I read the First Law trilogy a long while back and liked it a lot. I then read everything else Joe Abercrombie wrote as it came out including his young adult series. I normally won't read young adult series having raised teenagers, I don't need to revisit that kind of thinking. I largely enjoyed the books I've read, but didn't get started on this last trilogy until it was completed. Well... a couple years after it was completed.
A Little Hatred blew me away. I highlighted so much dialogue through the book and enjoyed all the characters. NOTE: I "enjoyed" the characters does not equal I "liked" the characters because Joe Abercrombie loves writing about assholes. I just looked at my review of the last book of the first trilogy. Apparently I was caught off guard about all the characters being unlikeable then. I'm glad I was better prepared.

Darkly comedic and wonderfully grim
This was a great story stepping back into the world of first law. The characters were just familiar enough to give you footing without it being fan service. This story was very unique I that there were 6 books before it building up the history of the world. So when you step in and read about the troubles in Styria you remember best served cold and when you meet Scales nephew you remember the heroes. All in all, a great read.

Four stars within genre. Abercrombie's writing has gotten really fluid, and I enjoyed the callouts to past characters.
