Not as good as 1st in series. Lost interest in the second act but picked up at the end to make it an overall good read

There’s already too much war, militaristic intrigue, and misogyny in the world. I don’t need to read about it in fantasy.

I don’t even know what to say. I’m dead after the ending.

If I'm honest, I can't tell how much I actually like this series versus how much I am reading it out of desperation to see this awful dystopian world toppled. It was pretty fast-paced, high-octane action, which kept me engaged. There was some character development, but I felt that Darrow in particular was somewhat stagnant, struggling with a lot of the same things as in the first book (e.g. trust, taking down a monstrous system without becoming a total monster, etc). Admittedly the last 100 or so pages of the book introduces some major catalysts for character growth and future plot. I have some hopes about how some characters and themes may potentially reshape the revolution against the Society, and I'm sufficiently curious to see where things go.

Also mild gripe with a few things happening off-page just to be like "Aha! Surprise, we are fine because I knew this all along and planned for it and did all these other things! Gotcha!"
