i initially picked this up because i was looking for a YA romance with a bi mc. although the story is your typical YA romance with messy high school drama with friends, exes, and crushes i REALLLY enjoyed it. the concept of an advice column isn't new, but i still thought it was fun to see darcy give people advice while also struggling with her own issues of the very same sort. it was pretty relatable and i loved the queer representation.

hi, i just need to rant about this book for a sec.
firstly, i cried.
secondly, i'm bisexual. i've known i'm bisexual for a while and for a while of that while i didn't like girls at all. my first girl crush happened about a year or so after i came out and until then, and even after then, i wasn't sure that i was actually bi. was i just another straight girl who thought she was bi but was actually just fetishising gay people? was i being insensitive to the lgbtq+ community by not liking girls? eventually i realised that yes, i am bisexual, and no, liking mostly guys doesn't make me less of that. but for a while... yeah, i wasn't sure.
reading this book, and seeing darcy, an openly bi girl, fall for a guy made me feel so happy. because i've always seen bisexual people in same-sex relationships, and because reading books with het couples made me feel less queer. but this book was just a breath of fresh air and it made me so happy.
thirdly, not only was it completely queer while also featuring a guy/girl relationship but it also made me feel massively grateful towards sophie gonzales because!! aussie representation!! good aussie representation!! whether it was the screaming working class man in the car or telling a very bemused darcy that you're only a true aussie when you instinctively scream 'no way, get fucked, fuck off' at the pub, this novel felt so true to my heart (especially since i've done most aussie things that brougham mentioned in here). bonus points for the fairy bread reference because that just made me so incredibly happy.
i really loved this book. i really loved how true it felt to me, how queer everyone was, how i cried when said everyone told darcy she was queer even though she liked a guy. i don't think there was anything i didn't like in it.

- MC runs a relationship advice service, secretly
- Addresses biphobia incredibly well!
- Fun but very thoughtful!

WHAT?? Why did I wait so long to read this book?? I apologize in advance for how horrible this review is going to be, it’s hard to put the enjoyable qualities of this book into words

this was so cute actually...young adult rom-coms and i are guaranteed to have a fun time together. the handling of biphobia within the queer community was both extremely well-done and bares unfortunate accuracy to reality: my friends and i have struggled with similar issues, and it's validating to see them discussed in literature with such thought and care.

the characters are adorable!! darcy can be selfish and stubborn, but she's repeatedly held accountable for everything she does. i enjoyed reading about australian culture from brougham's perspective. also, i would very much like to join the ryan and chad truther club. finn, hit me up.

i adored this book. i just loved it so much.

darcy definitely was not a perfect character but that made me love her more? unlike some characters i see in books, she did recognise the error in her ways and feel bad about it and did her best to make it better. she also felt super relatable to me bc a few months ago something happened with my old friends after a huge mistake i made. i apologised and did my best to make the situation better but they didnt forgive me (which i completely understand and respect) and we’re no longer friends. anyway what im saying is it felt good to see that represented in a book and have that bit of reassurance that im not a totally awful person because of a bad thing i did.

also, i love brougham and darcy together, they are adorable and this was just in general a great book :)
