Wow! This book was so good! I had no idea that her story was so intense and heartbreaking at times. Beautiful writing and the audiobook was amazing.

I cannot sing Viola’s praises more…she wrote her soul into this book and (though not inherently spiritual) felt sacred to learn from her life.

Even if memoirs weren’t my favorite - I think I still would adore this story. So good!

I love Hollywood bios and I listened to this during my commute, just as she won the Grammy for her reading. Powerful and funny, it does not shy away from the abuse and traumas while also offering hope and suggestions for the different therapies and ways to heal.

Wow. What a story! Poverty abuse and struggle & the long term effects of racism are abstract concepts until the day to day realities are brought home so powerfully in the hands of a brilliant narrative.
