“There is the natural liar … always says the thing that sounds best.”

“I can admire the perfect murder- I can also admire a tiger.”

“Once a man is imbued with the idea that he knows who ought to be allowed to live and who ought not- then he is halfway to becoming the most dangerous killer there is- the arrogant killer who kills not for profit - but for an idea.”

Four of Agatha Christie’s detectives are invited to a dinner by a mysterious and disreputable man. The other four people invited to this dinner are individuals that the evenings host claims have gotten away with murder!

Tasked with discovering and solving these crimes our sleuths are otherwise distracted when the unfortunate host of the evening is himself murdered in the same room as his guests without anyone noticing.

Now Superintendent Battle, Mrs Ariadne Oliver, Colonel Race and Mr Hercule Poirot have more than one mystery to investigate and four likely suspects.

I really enjoyed this one! A joint force of some of Christie’s varied detectives gives the mystery a fun twist. The contrasting personalities and detecting methods give a feeling of variety though out the book that keeps it feeling fresh and interesting.

I also love whenever Ariadne Oliver is in anything as she is brilliantly eccentric and a caricature of Christie herself. She always adds an element of fun to the story.

Just a really fun one and a little unusual.

I recommend this book for anyone who what’s to get to know some of Christie’s lesser known detectives better and anyone who enjoys a locked room mystery.

Very twisty! I love the conceit that all of the suspects are alleged murderers already, even though I wish the victim had followed through on his premise about artistic crime. There is a bit of a disconnect between the slow beginning and rollercoaster ending, especially because the middle is a lot of back and forth about the suspects' previous crimes. This book is also packed to the gills with inspectors: Poirot, Battle, Race, and even the satirical self insert Ariadne Oliver. Unfortunately it's also packed with racism!

I think this was my second Agatha Christie's book. And again, I was turning pages like crazy.

Loved the setting. Really, really good.

Poirot's thinking is awesome, and it surprised me how it ended. I couldn't guess the culprit because every one of them could have done it. And more and more things kept pointing not to one, but to various suspects at the same time, which was even more crazy.

Lots of twists, even though mystery is not my favorite genre, it was very riveting

Fiz as pazes com Agatha Christie. A bem dizer, nunca estive zangada...

Agora e Sempre!
