📚19/26: Cards on the Table by Agatha Christie

This book is such a treat. We follow Hercule Poirot, Colonel Race, Supt. Battle & Ariadne Oliver in the pursuit of the truth behind the murder of a fancy party host.

The story revolves around the murder of Mr. Shaitana and the four detectives and four murder suspects. Who would have murdered Mr. Shaitana in full view of bridge players?

In the pursuit of the truth, many murders from the past has been opened. It is up to Poirot, Race, Battle & Ariadne to know who is behind the murders.

And again, I thought I got the murderer, but boy I was wrong. I know I should have known the formula but still I fell into the trap once again.

ok

Always fun to read a Poirot's case ^^

I thought I had guessed the murderer correctly but then changed my mind. Should have stuck with my gut instinct as it proved correct. Always love Agatha Christie. This time I guessed a few points of the plot but overall she still amazes me.

I had thought for SURE I'd caught onto a detail that would come out later as important, but I'd spun myself off onto a rabbit trail, lol. Masterful, and rivetting. I couldn't put it down! Read it in two sittings. I guess I have to go find Christie's other novels now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Such an interesting premises. No wonder it's one of Poirot's favorite cases and it might be for the author too. I can imagine how fun she had writing the nattering nosy novelist.

Rounded up to 4 stars

Extremely complex with lots of wonderfully messy side branches to explore for the detective(s!). Far more sprawling that I am used to Christie being but just as detailed as ever with well drawn characters and Poirot being so absolutely Poirot. Four murders, four detectives, and a surprise murder in the same room? Who can ask for a more marvelous mess?

That said, I know nothing at all about bridge and so those sections 100% ran together in my mind. I felt like I was definitely missing some nuances because of my ill education.
