Cards on the Table by Agatha Christie is one of my favourite Hercule Poirot mysteries! I loved the premise of four murderers and four detectives being pitted against each other at a party where the host dies.

The entire structure of the mystery was masterfully constructed with the readers getting to experience sleuthing from Poirot, Battle, and Mrs. Oliver (whom I love because it's like Agatha Christie wrote a version of herself into Poirot's world) as each tries to determine whether the four party guests truly are murders and which one is most likely to have murdered Mr. Shaitana.

Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys well constructed mysteries!

3.5

It had been a while since I read an Agatha Christie story!
It was just what I needed: a quick, suspensful and twisted story. I loved getting to know each character and blaming all of them at once, then non, then someone else and so on. Agatha Christie really is a master at the classic "whodunnit" style. One thing that kind of bugged me, was how we didn't see the problem through Hercule Poirot's eyes, but he simply explained the whole thing, so in my mind, he just guessed everything right, but I couldn't see the whole logic and genius behind it. Somethings felt a little convenient sometimes...

However, while it was really fun to read, this book wasn't that special to me, maybe it's due to the shortness of it, but it won't stick with me or didn't made me think about any bigger topic, which is something I look for in my reading these days.

So solid 3.5 stars, very fun to read, maybe lacking in something else than pure drama, mystery and clues.

mysterious slow-paced

This was my first Christie mystery and it was fun! It felt really slow getting started but ultimately I was surprised at the end (and guessed so incorrectly…multiple times).

Once again, Christie outsmarted me...
