3.5. Slow first half, but the last few chapters really pick up! The twists!!!
★★★★☆ | 4.5 Stars
Agatha Christie does not disappoint yet again. Mysteries where there is a small pool of suspects are what Christie excels at and Cards on the Table has only 4 possible suspects. It's chock full of twists, surprises and red herrings, and kept me guessing right up until the very last chapter. Not quite the full five stars because you really need to know bridge to have a full appreciation of this book (and I haven't the foggiest idea how bridge works).

Re-read - loved it just as much. Was still surprised by the ending!

This was such a fun and tricky mystery. I love how Shaitana put together this dinner party of 4 detectives and 4 suspected murderers. Then he baited the murderers by a conversation where each of the characters were talking about how they would kill someone. Too bad he didn't realize he would be killed by one that very night. It was great to read how each of AC's detectives have varying investigative styles.

It's amazing that Poirot just looked at the bridge scores to understand the suspects (of course he IS my favorite so I'm biased). I don't know much about bridge at all, but I love that approach. Of course all the detectives brought the clues together, but Poirot broke the case! AC threw in a lot of red-herrings and it almost seemed to focus on all the suspects except Dr. Roberts (Shaitana's murderer). I was really convinced it was Anne or even her housemate Rhonda somehow. The story was more enjoyable because the detectives were not only investigating the recent murder, but also murders in each person's past. I hope there are other books where these detectives come together again.
