1st off i do think i liked this more than book 1. i think the thing that struck me most from reading this duo was that it felt really familiar - i can see where the author took inspiration from other sci fi classics, but was also able to make it her own & fit it within her own world. loved the depth of all the characters & how she’s able to weave in so many plot lines happening at the same time without getting the reader confused, & how she continues exploring the same core themes from book 1 but from a slightly diff perspective this time

Aliens are fascinating. Some actions/behaviors of main characters slightly impenetrable. The growth of the emperor in waiting was suspenseful and fun to follow.

Not as impactful as A Memory Called Empire, but how could it be? It was still fascinating and truly enjoyable to be in this world that Arkady Martine has created and imagined. I loved being there and it still left me wanted to visit it again. I hope to return one day!
