The antics of this poor boy had me in tears! What a great short story. The writing is exceptional and it reads like a movie in my head. I wish i could take the little boy home with me. I loved this book!

This book rather splits the line between juveniile and YA. (Will a juvenile know what puberty is? Will a YA think it's too little kid when they make fun of mooning over girls?) But either way, it is hilarious! Only in Paulsen's world do farm pigs becoming "commie japs" and putting the motor from a washing machine on a broken down bike become a good idea. Overalls are lost, horses are traumatized for life, Tarzan reenactments are miscalculated and Gene Autry plays the same scene, over and over, without sound, to the amazement of an entire community's children.
It was a lovely and hilarious book! The end, like the summer, left me a little heartbroken.

Love a good Gary Paulsen. Engaging, rhythmic, and enticing all the way through.

No book has made me laugh more in a long time than this book did. I loved every minute of reading about all the crazy things Harris did. While the ending may not have been what I wanted, it didn't matter because the ending is perfect as it it and it only adds to the story. The rich details made it so alive and it was so easy to picture all the trouble they got into and it wasn't hard at all to laugh at their pain :). I would recommend this book to anyone of any age because I know it would bring a smile to their face.

One of the funniest books I’ve ever read.  My entire family, parents and kids, loved this book.  I nearly choked on my own laughter.
