I was excited to learn of Meyer's new series as I was a big fan of the Lunar Chronicles and Wires and Nerves. To say this was a disappointment doesn't even sum it up.

I started off with the audiobook. The narrator for Adrian was good but the narrator for Nova had me rotating between cringing and rolling my eyes. I switched from the audiobook to the physical book to see if it made a difference and it did, somewhat. It was much easier to follow and gave me a chance to enjoy Nova's character slightly but honestly, she was petulant, the story lacked substance and was a fairly annoying read. I wanted to stop but when you've committed 11 hours of listening time, well you just need to finish what you started.

Would not recommend.

So I would say this book is a 3.5/3.75. I liked this book. I am excited to see what happens next. I liked most of our characters. The only problem I think I had with it was that I wasn't fully ready for a full on super hero book. That is totally on me by the way. I think the book was written well and and I liked that there was diversity in many forms and it wasn't made to be a big deal. I understand and support that having diversity is important, but I don't think the things we read need to shove it in our faces and make it out to be a crazy huge deal. Diversity should be written like this, where it is a part of the story and flows.

Good start to a new series. Excited to see where it goes and I hope it's not predictable.

I enjoyed this book so much more than I had expected, I'm not usually inclined towards superhero stories but after enjoying the Villians series by V.E. Schwab AND after hearing Emmmabooks on youtube raving about this series for a while I thought I would give it a go.

This book cannot in any way be compared to Villians besides the whole existence of people with powers and while I enjoyed that more, this is definitely a cool read.

I really liked the way the world was developed and our main cast of characters are all interesting and well written.

My favourite thing about this book would have to be the way both Nova and Adrian grapple with what is right and what is wrong, this book perfectly illustrates how life isn't always black and white. The way they both try to live in accordance with their values and beliefs but are constantly having them challenged was fascinating and very well written!

Theory: I bet it was Ace who had Nova's family killed because he wanted her to join him and her parents wouldn't allow it.

I can't wait to see how this trilogy is going to progress!

This is such an incredible way to start a series. I loved this book so much even after the third read. Nova and Adrien are amazing mcs and just perfect together. I love Oscar and Ruby and Danna and Leroy and Winston and ajdhfhfbhdjfjfj this whole cast of characters is just incredible.
