Very unique concept! Definitely got emotionally invested. My only complaint is that I couldn't really understand what the pets were trying to communicate half the time
The person who handed this to me warned me that it was sad, but didn't

let on that the dog and cat make it out, which is something.
Very interesting concept for a graphic novel. Many big ideas were raised in just over 100 pages! The art style was excellent but not really what I would often seek out. This novel was a great next step in broadening my genre scope and I’m glad I had the chance to interact with it.
Amazing art. Very sad story, especially if you are an animal lover. Plot line can feel a little confusing at times, as Morrison tends to let the art do a lot of the storytelling.
Fascinating premise, but I had trouble processing many of the battle scenes
Switching my review to this edition, since this was the one on my must read list.

The art in We3 is fantastic. A lot of care is given to each panel and the action scenes especially are impressively rendered. It does get a little hectic and hard to parse at times, but examining each scene to figure out what exactly is going on is still entertaining and allows you to see things in the art you may have otherwise missed. Every single page is awesome to look at and the art almost carries this book on its own.
There are a couple of times where the panels are confusingly ordered or their content is poorly defined in such a way as to make the narrative difficult to follow. Specifically, near the beginning when the animals are breaking out, there is a large sequence of small panels that tells a lot of story, but many of them show nothing important or show action happening "off camera", so it is difficult to tell what is actually going on.
The story is sort of cool, but feels a bit rushed. The conceit is that three animals are turned into killing machines by a government experiment a'la [b:Plague Dogs|12442|The Plague Dogs|Richard Adams|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1166502517s/12442.jpg|826957] and then escape containment and go on a rampage. The animals have very limited ability to speak, so when they interact you sort of have to infer what they are saying from their situation and the lettering. This, honestly, doesn't work very well, though it is an interesting idea. If Morrison had chosen a less restrictive method of communication it would have gone a long way towards making this comic more readable.
The story ends up being sort of touching I guess, but I don't really care about animal testing enough to feel any pity for these animals by default, and the story isn't given enough time for me to actually develop an attachment to them. Allowing the animals to have a larger impact on the narrative through speech may have resolved this, rather than their impact largely being based on shooting/exploding people.
Regardless of the issues I have, this is a fantastic comic and I would recommend it to everyone.

We3 is a fascinating read that explores the humanity (or lack there of) of using specially trained animals in place of human soldiers. Each of the animals has their own personality which really makes you feel for them.
No only that but there are some stunning and innovative visuals! There are some very interesting scenes which are laid out to mirror the way in which animals see and process time. My favorite scene is a 108 panel sequence that mimics the view a security guard might have through cameras monitoring different physical areas at all the same time.
It reminded me a lot of [b:Laika|1641695|Laika|Nick Abadzis|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1317066931s/1641695.jpg|2540092], so if you enjoyed that graphic novel you will probably like We3. Although, be forewarned that We3 is exceptionally more violent and graphic!

Total honesty, I love this book. The art style took me aback at first, because I'm more of a story person and tend to rush these things. WE3 will not be rushed. In the first 1/3 of the book we're presented with a slow-motion action sequence in 108 panels compressed into 6 pages. Immediately after, blood-soaked chaotic violence explodes off the page in ways I've never seen drawn before and pretty much never lets up. Every image is minutely detailed, exquisitely crafted, and deeply intense. It sucked me in and held my attention in a way no action comic has since The Losers, and this is much better done. (For me The Losers is all about story.)
If that sounds great to you, just gimme another minute. Because I can't think of a single person I know to whom I could in good conscience recommend this book. Great art, great story, great ending, I laughed, I cried, but hang on. It's still America's three favorite house pets acting out the most tragic imaginable mashup of Robocop and Iron Man. It's as if the author(s) watched the movie Short Circuit and asked themselves what if, during the scene where he learns he's going to be "disassembled", Johnny 5 were a dog.
It's an awesome fucking book, but I'm not convinced that question really needed to be answered.

I really liked this, as surreal as it was at times. It's a "sad animal story" but it doesn't suffers those weak at heart. It's brutal in it's action, even though the gore is boxed up in small panels.
And, spoiler warning, the dog is a good dog.
