The Scarecrow Queen has been a book I have been desperate to read for what feels like forever. The wait to find out what happen for Twylla and Errin has to have been the longest wait in the world...but it was so worth it.

The Scarecrow Queen tells us a story in three parts, the first part we spend time with Twylla as she travels through villages, and countryside, looking for friends, looking for aid, and a way to stop Aurek once and for all. Her journey is a perilous one and she is met with the enemy, and people trying to get rich quick. But she persists in her quest, determined to fight to the end and die trying. She has little belief and faith in herself, and has no idea how she is meant to come up against Aurek and win.
We are also taken to Errin, who is being held captive by Aurek and under his control, forcing her to do anything he wants and demands. But she also has an ally who is doing all he can to keep Errin safe whilst trying to plan an escape. The third part sees the two stories combined and we follow the progress of the story towards the finale, the chance to finally kill Aurek, or die trying.

The Scarecrow Queen is the best of both worlds mixed together. I loved getting to see old faces as well as meeting some new ones and taking this journey with two resilient, strong women. Seeing them build any army, a resistance against Aurek, helping whomever they can, and willing to sacrifice thier future for a better future for all.

Melinda has done a fantastic job of creating this world and these characters and letting us to fall head over heels in love with it all, and even though it is the end, I'm sure we are all very unwilling to leave. There is nothing about this series that I dislike....even the bad guy is likable in his own twisted way.

Final Verdict
The Scarecrow Queen is a book to end it all. It takes this series out with a bang, and I know for a fact if we were lucky enough to have a possible future book, I would not hesitate to pick it up.

Review Taken from The Pewter Wolf

In this, the third and final book in the trilogy, the Sleeping Prince has taken control of Lormere and with Twylla in hiding and Errin in his clutches, time is running out to them and their band of rebels to stop him taking full control.

But Aurek will stop at nothing to keep the throne and to keep it forever.

Anymore than that and I might spoil a lot of details within the previous two books in the trilogy, [b:The Sin Eater’s Daughter|21936988|The Sin Eater’s Daughter (The Sin Eater’s Daughter, #1)|Melinda Salisbury|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1422735103s/21936988.jpg|41240830] and [b:The Sleeping Prince|27281393|The Sleeping Prince (The Sin Eater’s Daughter, #2)|Melinda Salisbury|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1445887398s/27281393.jpg|46660902]. But it's gonna hit the fan, so brace yourselves...

This is the strongest and my favourite book in the trilogy. Things are put into place and the pay-off worked excellently, characters have grown from when we first met them and we have a climax which left me breathless.

This is how a final book in a trilogy in a dark fantasy trilogy should be: dramatic, badass, tender, creepy as heck (I couldn't stop thinking about the prologue for days after I read it, and those interlude chapters were just ), breath-taking as you want to sped through to the end yet want to savour the writing at the same time. It's been so long since I read a faultless finale, and this ticked every box!

Shame it's taken me so long to discover this trilogy (blame the hype fear and the wrath of nearly EVERY BLOGGER/VLOGGER WHO SCREAMED AT ME TO READ THIS TRILOGY [and Melinda who threatened to send a Dementor at me - I swear she's Voldermort's secret daughter!]) but Mel has a new fan and I await her next book, Floored (which she is co-writing with Sara Barnard, Holy Bourne, Tanya Byrne, Non Pratt, Lisa Williamson and Eleanor Wood) and her just-announced trilogy with baited breath!

In this concluding instalment the story is narrated by both Twylla and Errin.

The duel p.o.v allowing us to experience the culmination of events from the first two books from two distinct vantage points. However, the caveat to this is that there seems to be a disappointing lack of character development in this final book.

Yet, we get to witness the terror and fracturing of a kingdom in the brink, the rebellion of a people fed up of oppressive control, and the sacrifices that the two girls are willing to make in order to finally defeat the evil that has been plaguing the land.

This book started off strong and then went downhill. Twylla’s initial section was strong and I really liked her at first but then her character growth deteriorated. Instead of being a strong level headed leader I felt like she acted like a child throwing a tantrum when people didn’t do exactly what she wanted. The fact that Merek gave up his crown for her in the end was absurde. Merek’s decision went against every part of his character development , he loved his people, he freed them from the tyrannical rule of his mother and then the tyrannical rule of the sleeping prince, he never stopped fighting for his people while Twylla ran and hid and then acted as though she deserved the throne for deciding not to be a coward. In the end Twylla acted as though she truly was a god and deserved to rule. I did love Errin and Silas but wish they had more time together in Errin’s part of the book and less time had been spent on detailing the Sleeping Prince’s cruelty.

I loved this entire series. Inventive, immersive, with vivid imagery and beautiful titles. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the ending and it felt a little anti-climatic. Certain characters who were built up in the first book are all but forgotten about here, and their fates leave something to be desired. I did like being surprised, however. It was far from predictable.

I really liked the conclusion to this series. I enjoyed getting to see more of Twylla and Errin, as they are so awesome. In particular both getting to come of grips with what is needs to be done and what that means for them was really nice. Especially for Twylla.

I really wanted to see more of what Leif was thinking - I think in the last book I hoped for that and I’m sad not to see more of it now. How he got to where he was and why he made the decisions he did - for good or bad. I found his character the hardest to read because I just had no idea what was going on with him.

I also wanted more Silas, but I can cope with that a little.

I really liked the evilness of the Prince - and the way he does things. The opening scene in particular is SO creepy.

Overall a good finale for the series, though the second book is my favourite.

This was a solid ending to a solid fantasy-series! I love how much Twylla has grown, and all the characters really. Its an epic and good paced ending to a trilogy.

Thus was such a good book, it was awesome. It made me happy and it made me shed a tear. Only at the verry end i wanted a bit more.

Dit was zo een goed boek, ik vond het echt geweldig. Het maakte me blij en het zorgde dat ik een traan liet. Enkel helemaal aan het einde wilde ik een beetje meer.
