The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff

My second attempt at a Lauren Groff novel and I couldn't finish this one either. All of Lauren Groff's books sound amazing, but I just don't like her writing style. It's the kind of "good" writing that gets in the way of the story (flowery, pretentious, closer to stream of consciousness than I would like). I appreciate good writing, but I don't like it when the writing becomes the story.

This book could not be more secular.  It is the most beautifully written leftist plot line I have ever encountered.  Very beautiful, but conflicting…and SO not plausible.

I'm sure a lot of people found this novel profound. And many more will.

To me this was a great story that somehow was really dully executed. Plot-wise - great! But why was I hoping that the protagonist will die and put us both out of our misery for the last quarter of the book??

I really enjoyed this book. While very dark at times, it was beautifully written. The growth of the characters thoughts on nature and colonialism was my favorite part.
