I could smell rain reading this book. You don't have to be a kid anymore to remember how amazing it feels in the hot summer to throw on your bathing suit and dance in the rain with your friends. While I think this book is a bit too long for storytime, it's definitely a must read, especially for adults who want a little nostalgia.

Beautiful vocabulary describes a host of experiences, highlighting various senses. The watercolor illustrations are a perfect pairing.

Great read aloud for sensory language. Lots of visual details including all 5 senses. Fun illustrations, and depicts an adorable mother/daughter relationship.

The illustrations by Jon J. Muth are absolutely lovely, but the star of this picture book is the lyrical and sensory text as Tess wills the hot, stagnant air of summer to bring on the rain.

I love Karen Hesse's writing. She just has a way of putting words together and making them sound like dances. Come On, Rain! is the story of a young girl waiting for rain after a drought and the celebration she, and her friends and family, has after the rain comes. In addition to the beautiful writing, the watercolor illustrations adds an extra beauty to the story making it even more like a piece of art. I also truly appreciate the diversity of the families portrayed.

While I couldn't really identify with the story, having never experienced this wait for the rain in the heat of summer, the book is highly atmospheric and the watercolor pictures absolutely stunning, very realistic but at the same time ethereal, poetic, vibrant and full of life. I think [a:Jon J. Muth|12733|Jon J. Beautiful book!

The pictures are better than the text. I felt like the text was trying too hard and it ultimately did not work great as a read aloud.

There's not a more appropriate time for me to find this book and decide to read it than now when days & nights are scorching hot! I missed you, rain~

The imagery and writing style of this children's book is fantastic! Definitely one I will reread with my children.

Oh wow. Monsoon season in the Sonoran desert might be the perfect time and place to read this, but I just instantly and wholly FELT this book. I have enjoyed Jon Muth's illustrations before, but in this one they transported me. I swear I could almost hear the cicadas humming and feel the sweat slipping down behind my knees while I read. And then the joy of the dancing in the rain, first the kids and then the mamas, was just wonderful. Beautiful.
