Just your typical King - vengeful cars and lots of teenage boners.

FINALLY!! What a reading! Almost 4 months to read this novel and what a novel! Will I be one day disappointed by a Stephen King’s? As always, I took my time (well an eternity) to read more than half of the book, the setting up of the plot and the rise of the tension are always so superbly mastered and in particular in this book, where we’re following the suspicious and so far insane behaviour change of a young boy following his recent purchase of an old car, the description pages are well done. I got through the latest pages with both enthusiasm and nostalgia as usual when I read SK because he mastered his work until the last sentence and it’s completely delicious.

It is not going to be my all-time SK book but I can’t get over the fact that SK classic novels are awesome and that imagination power and originality and writing style are definitely impressive so thank you again Stephen King for making me stay awake late at night and making me reading good literature.

For a novel about a killer car, there’s a shockingly small bit of killer-car-related plot inside. I will admit the best outline for a horror book is when the scary parts are few and far between, leading towards a very large amount of intensity at the end – it helps to build up tension. But here it just doesn’t work for me. Especially because most of the in-between bit is just angsty drawl about being a teenager, and I personally hate stories about teenagers.

However the final chapter was amazingly-done! So well-written! It made me cry, despite thinking I didn’t care for the entire book before then.

Not his best, but it's been a while since I've read any Stephen King and this book is a good reminder of why he's good. The book is more a story about a friendship than it is a horror story; it's not even until the halfway point that we even get into Christine's killing spree. A lesser writer would jump right in, but the way King manages it we're invested in the characters by the time things goes south.

The first thing I really adored about this book was the character of Dennis. He simply felt very alive to me, real, someone I might know. I appreciate that real ness. I also really liked how the terror was expressed. Nothing super over dramatic, and the terror was small at first, slowly growing. The suspicion and nerves really got to me.

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. Stephen King can be hit or miss for me, and this one hit. I was actually wary around some cars for a while! The writing was good, the characters were in depth and likable. I found the story unique and refreshing as well. If you’ve seen the movie, this is SO much better!!! Highly recommend to get your horror fix in.
