"Oh, he loved and loathed her, he hated her and cherished her, he needed her and needed to run from her, she was his and he was hers."
The thrilling adventures of Christine, Arnie Cunningham's '58 red-and-white Plymouth, were horrifically tasty. She was a mad woman, envious of her owner's friends and lover, and ready to avenge whoever came for him.
I did not expect I would enjoy reading this so much. A murderous cursed car? Please. Nothing about that sounded appealing, but it's a well-known story and even merchandise was made with Christine being the star! I had to give it a chance, and I'm seriously glad I did. Dennis Guilder and Leigh Cabot really held the story through. Arnie's best friend and his girlfriend teaming up was something I didn't foresee, but that climax point within the book really got me zooming through, page-turning my life away.
Not everyone's cup of tea, but you should try it out. It's good.

I've reached midway on my Year of King and hit the first real challenge. Christine dragged for me, probably because I do not care one fig about cars, but it's still an entertaining, thoroughly Stephen King-y read. It probably doesn't help that none of the primary characters are overly sympathetic and never really connected me to their peril. Some cool imagery in the midst of the book and an interesting take on the "location with a history" that comes out much better in things like Pet Sematary or The Shining but ultimately not one of my favorites.
This is where words become alive, and they hunt you...
Dennis Guilder and his best friend Arnie Cunningham are on their way home from work when Arnie sees something that changes his entire life. There sits a 1951 Plymouth Fury. He thinks it is the greatest thing he has ever seen. Dennis thinks it looks like it hasn't moved in years and probably never should again.
Arnie absolutely has to have it. As soon as he gets his paycheck he buys it. Things begin to change immediately. He goes home and has his first argument with his parents over the car. Slowly as the car becomes exactly what it once was, Arnie appears to become less of what he once was. As the body of the Fury is repaired Arnie's pimples begin to disappear. As the car starts to run Arnie becomes angry and volatile.
Dennis has a terrible accident in football and that is when things really shift. When he first enters the hospital he is visited by his friend Arnie, before he leaves he is visited by a stranger that looks like Arnie. People who have injured Arnie in any way begin to die.
Leigh, Arnie's girlfriend/ex-girlfriend begins to spend more time with Dennis. As they figure out a way to get rid of Christine and save Arnie they get closer.

I listened to the audiobook and felt that it wasn't as engaging as reading the actual book. Some points were really difficult to visualize and the story felt drawn out. After watching the movie, the book has so many more moments that show the true power of Christine.
I thought that the beginning of this book was a bit slow. Not the dreadful slow that makes you want to put the book down, but the slow that just takes you time to get through because you aren't hooked. I found myself once telling someone that not much had happened yet. But that is the key word- YET. Once the action started picking up, I felt that it got much better! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes Stephen King!
