One of the better Kings I’ve read! I went in with very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. It does take a while to ramp up, but not as long as I was afraid it would, and Dennis is (while still kinda sexist) way more likeable than many King narrators. I think the reveals surrounding LeBay and his past were also really well paced and provided some suspense, since the killer car thing is known going in. Probably more of a 3.5 than a straight 3 star.

Just a quick review since I don't have much to say on it - I listened to the audiobook of Christine, and it was a fun story. I think it's more campy than anything else. There were some parts that dragged, and I was expecting the story to be a little more sinister, but I still liked it overall.

I have become a regular, though somewhat late-blooming fan of some of the more classic works by Stephen King. I do not profess to have seen all the movies or read all the books under the stairs, in secret, when they came out, as my parents forbade me to do. I just heard all the hype and thought, does not seem like I want to read horror. Now that I am much older, I am getting into his books and see that they are less about horror and more about paranormal, set in small town USA, with masterful narration and interesting plotlines. CHRISTINE is one such book, filled with the colourful Kingisms that I have grown to like.
King uses this odd fiend, a vehicle, and turns it into a great book for all those interested in his work. It tells the story of two (three I suppose in the latter part of the book) teens and how this 1958 vehicle overtakes their lives and eventually that of the entire town. King weaves not only ideas of obsession and possession, but also the evils that can come from retribution for actions taken against someone. The main characters seem to struggle with what is happening before them and King does bring their personalities off the page and into the limelight.
I enjoyed the book and the length of time it took to read should not indicate my lack of interest. Personal holidays, though away from work, are not always conducive to a great deal of reading.
KUDOS Mr. King. What a master you are!

This is the good old-fashioned King that I've been missing! I notice his older work is a lot more psychologically in depth than his newer books. This book is very character focused and I loved seeing the gradual obsession and tension. Plus, the ending was delightfully chilling!

Have you ever loved something so much that it consumed your life. Maybe it wasn’t love but an obsession that you put before your family, friends, even yourself. That is the story of Arnold Cunningham who buys a 1958 Plymouth Fury named Christine. As he spends more time with the car his friends and family see a change in him, first physical appearance then a change in his personality.
This was such a great read, don’t let the size of the book intimidate you because you will fly through this one. It’s like if you combined the high school drama of Grease and the spooky haunting of The Excorcist! I really loved Arnold’s best friend Dennis and how he persisted despite the odds of failure. This may be my favorite Stephen King novel I’ve read thus far! Maybe it’s a good thing I name my cars male names lol
Also I just recently watched the movie for the first time and was disappointed! I thought the book was WAY better and the movie left out and changed so much, I’d love to see a remake though!

It was love at first sight for Arnie Cunningham the day he spotted the dilapidated 1958 red and white Plymouth Fury for sale on the side of the road. The cantankerous owner has dubbed the car “Christine” and is willing to part with his car for a steep price. Arnie’s best friend, Dennis Guilder, warns him he’s being taken for a fool, but Arnie refuses to believe him. Arnie is the kid who has never had much luck in the looks or popularity department, but with Christine in his life, everything starts to change for Arnie. Suddenly he has a newfound confidence, his skin is clearing up, and he’s garnered the attention of the most beautiful girl in school, Leah Cabot. Things may be looking up for Arnie, but the longer he owns Christine, the more he starts to change into someone Dennis and Leah don’t recognize. Is there more than meets the eye with Christine?
CHRISTINE is one of those Stephen King books that I’ve grown up hearing about, but more so in reference to the movie. I knew that there was a crazy car at the center of this story, but beyond that I didn’t quite know what to expect when I picked this book up. What I found was an entertaining horror story with a great campy vibe!
The story is told from Dennis’ viewpoint for the majority of the book, which allows for a great outsider's perspective on what is happening to Arnie since acquiring Christine. We get to know both Dennis and Arnie, while also learning about their friendship, during the first part of the book. I thought the set-up of Christine was very true to King’s form with a lot of backstory coming through in the first section to lead to the action later. I know not everyone is a fan of King’s use of intricate detail when setting up his stories, but for me it really works and I loved getting to know our main characters closely.
The entire premise to this book felt mapped out in order to explore the full potential of the plot. If I’m being completely honest, this one lost point for me because I wanted a bigger ending. I wanted something more dramatic than what was delivered, although ultimately King’s ending was satisfying enough for me.
This is a tough story to talk about in a review without giving away too many fun details from the story. What I’ll close with saying is that I genuinely enjoyed reading CHRISTINE! There was such a nostalgic and campy horror movie vibe to the book that I instantly clicked with it. There was heart, mystery, and plenty of tense moments where I wasn’t sure what was going to happen.
Basically...you’d be a shitter not to read this one! (IYKYK)

I’m surprised at how much I liked this! The synopsis just didn’t sound like something I would normally pick up if written by someone else.
I did not go into this book expecting to enjoy it because, come on, it’s about a car! 😏 but I did enjoy it, quite a lot! No one is more pleasantly surprised than me ☺️
