So this book was good. A little slow to get going but had me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what would happen. Gets 4 instead of 5 because I don't get the whole car obsession thing... Blame that on the whole being a girl thing. But Stephen King certainly knows how to get me spooked.
While not one of my favorite reads (mostly due to the obnoxious narrator), King did a good job here. I just wish I could've gotten more invested in the story.
The first thing I really adored about this book was the character of Dennis. He simply felt very alive to me, real, someone I might know. I appreciate that real ness. I also really liked how the terror was expressed. Nothing super over dramatic, and the terror was small at first, slowly growing. The suspicion and nerves really got to me.
I was a little surprised at my lack of enthusiasm for this story. I expected... more. There were several times in the telling that I just *couldn't* buy in. I think my ability to suspend my disbelief is pretty good, great even, but this... I just couldn't.
3.5/5
CW: death, murder, bullying, and loss of long-term friendships
Meh?
Okay, it wasn't his worst. It also wasn't his best. Some parts were really interesting and I was hooked. Then some parts were really slow and dull and I couldn't care less. But it's a large book. I can't believe he was able to stretch the story into around 650 pages. Because when you hear about a car that kills people, it just doesn't sound like a book that can go that long. Overall, the story is good and I really appreciate the way King wrote male friendships, but it wasn't his best. One day I'd be interested in rereading it when it's not very fresh in my mind.

The book is a little goofy but it's really fun. Every so often, when I walk past a car, I almost expect it to suddenly come to life and hit me. (Yeah, my mind is a scary place. I will own that.)
But this is almost more a tragedy than anything else. Arnie comes so close to being happy, but his obsession for the car (and the fact that Christine is evil) ruins it.

This book ended up being a DNF. It was just way too slow. It took like 200 pages for anything to even actually happen.
Just finished Christine a while ago. This book has a lingering, eerie aftertaste. I almost kept on expecting a car to come crashing into the house. If I see any older cars around that resemble Christine in anyway, I'm probably going to end up giving them a wide berth for quite some time. It's always nice to have a book that leaves you with something even if that something it is a small fear of Plymouth Fords.
Stephen King did a wonderful job writing this. Possessed cars never struck me as that interesting, but he managed to make it a very interesting experience.
