Posamezni stavki so zelo poetični.

The Fig Tree is a multigenerational family story set against the political, social and cultural background of Yugoslavia from 1945 through to the 2010s, a period that includes rise of Communism, the Balkan War and the resurgence of a free-market economy. Jadran Dizdar is in his thirties but feeling very unmoored. His grandfather has recently died (Jadran suspects it was suicide) , his wife has just left him and his father has been missing for many years. In trying to understand himself he first needs to fully understand his family history and the secrets he can only guess at. An interesting look at themes such as love, freedom and choice, but all within the confines of the time and place the characters live in. Seeing the history of the Balkans’s region through the lens of this family, which included those with Serb, Croat, Slovene and Bosnian heritage, gave me a new level of understanding of the messy realities of the region. Another thing it did well was portray the realities of dementia and how it can impact family members and caters as well as the actual patient.
