The character development in this series and this second novel specifically is so wild and well developed.

Fonda Lee sure knows how to write some complex ass characters. Writing this review I have already finished the third and final book and boy this series will live in my head forever

Jade War was never truly boring. There was always something going on, whether it was political, business, driven by vengeance, clan-related, or even romantic. I feel like I understand some of the characters at such a deeper level now, so much so that they're harder to idealize. Definitely a phenomenal sequel that did everything it was supposed to do, I will be starting Jade Legacy tomorrow but for now I need to just... process... all the emotions I am feeling.

i've thought for a day about to say and im quite unsure why, but i definitely liked this less than the first book. maybe because it took me longer to read, maybe just because it is way longer, or i'm missing lan or think some things are out of character (i keep wondering why hilo would believe after all these years that shae does not want to be weather man... and the physical fight between them...) but honestly i do want to finish this trilogy. it might take me years at this point but i'm sure i'll revisit these characters.

Enjoyed it more than the first one because it had a bit more action, but it's still slow for the most part. I feel like these books spend a lot of focus trying to build the characters but at the same time, I've found that I'm not super emotionally invested in the characters because they're mostly defined solely by their roles within the clan.
