I read this in my teens, and I think it was my earliest foray into an awareness of the dizzying complexity of the human mind and almost unbelievable tenacity of the human spirit. My fascination with psychology probably began here and, although I never seriously considered pursuing it as a profession, my interest in the science of human behavior has never flagged.
Honestly, the content is interesting but the writing was almost intolerable.
I have had this book for over 25 years. Dragging it with me each house moving I had in my life, to finally read it the last days. From page one I could not put it down. I was never bored with reading this story. Even though it might not be true, I loved every word of this story.

I read this over a decade ago after I'd read most of the other books in my parents's house. Not exactly the light read I was looking for but still quite good.
Before reading this book I learned that it is believed the story is fake. Real or not, I have very much enjoyed this book. I think I consider it more fiction than not, but it was interesting nonetheless and I kept wanting to hurry up and get back to the book. I’m rating it for that than whether it is a true story or not.
