This was a very interesting book and I'd recommend it to anybody who is or is wanting to be in the field of mental health. It reads like a fiction and kept me interested (many non-fiction books fail to due that). It was interesting to diagnose and truly understand the root of Sybil's DID.

Probably a true 4.5 star review. With full understanding of how this story was supposedly manipulated to present such a shocking “true” story, it still kept me intrigued and invested in the psychoanalysis. It is the story that made me originally interested in studying psychology either way. I’d like to think that the author and Doctor were not thinking up all of the terrible components of this story without it being mostly rooted in reality....but either way kept me hooked. If I deducted anything from the rating it would actually be more related to the depiction of schizophrenia in the book, although I understand it gets a point across and would probably be written differently if written today.

So boring and dry, but still tries to read like a fiction book.

This book took me an unusually long time to finish. Even though the main concept was interesting, I think the author failed in executing a well-rounded book. The writing style was too clinical for my taste and the material required more empathy for Sybil. It was very disturbing and was difficult for me to get through. If it wasn’t the monthly pick for my book club, I would have stopped reading about fifty pages in.
