Rushed romance and the main character didn't solve the murder mystery in this murder mystery book. The true murderer confessed to her and that was how it got solved. The ending was also less than satisfactory. Though I liked some aspects of the book. The supernatural aspect and the fact that Death was the love interest made it more interesting and different than your everyday murder mystery book. And in the beginning, the mystery was so riveting that I actually became invested in solving it. All in all, a solid 3 stars ⭐.

Bro nu-uh. Das hat sich gezogen wie Kaugummi und es war unspannend erzählt, ohne merkbaren Spannungsbogen. Mir war der "Kriminalfall" der Protagonistin irgendwann egal. Und der Tod-Daddy auch. 
Hab die letzten 50 Seiten gelesen, um es vllt aufzuwerten. Naja... ich versteh die "Tiktok-Sensation" nicht.

A wonderful gothic fantasy that pulled me right in. I loved the mystery as well as the coming-of-age journey. Watching Signa grow into her powers and into herself was a delight. The cliffhanger perfectly set up book two and a new journey in a way that I could not be mad about. This book was fast paced but didn't feel rushed, which I really appreciated. I'm normally not one for a love triangle, but I ate up the push and pull between Sylas and Death.

This book met and exceeded my expectations. It might be shelved as YA, but it didn't really read as YA. The only thing that kept me from giving this book five stars was more of a formatting choice than anything structural about the plot or characters, and it had to do with how Death and Signa communicated. There were times where I was left wondering if he was there with her or only in her head and my confusion detracted from the scene. I wish it had been a little clearer.
