Re-reading in preparation for book #4 in the series which is published next week. Just as engrossing as it was the first time around.
***
I enjoyed this even more the second time around. I could see all the maneouvreing that I'd missed in my first read-through.

Reading this again. I love this series...
It just gets better with every re-read. I love seeing Eugenides' plans unfold. Totally satisfying.
May 2017: I've realised on this read through that every time I read this book, I'm praying that she doesn't do it.

Read again 9th June 2015.

wow i loved this. there is something so special about a book that’s a real good 4 stars for most of the way and then you hit that chapter that makes you YELL AND REALIZE HOW PERFECTLY THINGS FALL INTO PLACE! oh ms turner the star that you are
I hesitate to give this 3 stars because Megan Whalen Turner is a good writer, but I honestly just enjoyed it less than the first one.
I think the world is amazing and the mythology is so cool, but I personally am a character-driven reader and the characters just weren't really doing it for me. After reading two books, I don't feel like I've gotten to know the characters that much more, if at all, and the romance doesn't really make sense to me, so it's kind of unappealing. Despite my love for enemies-to-lovers, I don't think the relationship itself or the characters had enough time to grow (from the reader's POV) and so it wasn't working for me.
I am planning to continue with the series but not right away.
I do seriously recommend this series to people who like court politics and warring countries and who don't want a romance at the center of the story.
