This was solid and cute but was missing depth for me.

A quick, fun read. Huda's parents are A Lot, but if Huda can get through living it, we can get through reading it.

This was great, loved it, hilarious, and also hit home at several points! Read this in one sitting!

Didn't expect the slightly deeper more racism focus for the final third, it was still fantastic, I just didn't expect to have it hit like that, but also it would be amiss to not include it, it's a part of our story. I also loved how this section of the story felt like a love letter to her mum 🥺

Equal parts hilarious and poignant. I loved Fahmy’s wry humor, the way she used it to highlight stigma, racism and religious bigotry in the U.S., and the universal awkwardness of being a teen trying to figure out who you are. Read this one.

I kind of feel like a jerk but this didn't work for me. The art style is not really my preference, but I felt like the first half lacked a plot or purpose. I was more interested once the larger plot comes into play with her dirtbag teacher and the a horrifying racial profiling incident. But, it felt like the book didn't push quite deep enough, even as a middle grade book. There is a clear voice and bouncy, humorous tone that sometimes fell flat for me. I'm also not the intended audience though. Overall, I would have liked if there was more to explore, but I am sure this book will appeal to many other young readers.

Oh this was so lovely. I was worried in the author's note, that it would be a sob identity story/more for a white audience, but actually it was really authentic and real and so funny, I was laughing on the commute to uni so much!

Really enjoyed it and will be reading more from the author but I felt like some of the thoughts were kind of scattered and confusing.
