I had no idea this is a murder mystery. So that was a fun surprise. The title is unfortunate though
3.5 stars. What I was expecting was a light beach read, and that quickly turned into something else entirely!
Big Summer follows Daphne Berg, a plus-sized Instagram influencer, who is invited to be part of the wedding party of her ex-best friend, Drue Cavanaugh, a glamourous and selfish socialite. I don't want to say much else about this book, since I feel like my lack of knowledge around the plot is what led to me enjoying it more.
I really liked the dynamic between Daphne and Drue. A Regina George-like character, Daphne had spent her whole teens life falsely idolizing Drue and pulled into her orbit. This dynamic gets turned on its head when Drue comes to Daphne in adulthood, desperate for companionship. It addresses those power imbalances that may exist in friendships, and that anyone spending their life comparing themselves to influencers or people who seem like they have everything anyone could ever might be comparing themselves to a lie.
Things got a little ridiculous, though, and I thought the ending was a bit soap opera-y and goofy. I'd give the first half of the book a 4 and the back half a 3, hence my review.
This is a great read and reality check for anyone who spends their time following influencers wishing they could be more like the people they see in their photos.

Randomly became a murder mystery, out of no where.

Just what I expected from Jennifer Weiner. Entertaining, mostly light, silly.

Not really my kind of book. Took a while to get into, but it was entertaining. I never think this, but this would make a good movie/possibly better than the book!
Good message & mystery but a little too racy for me in parts.
