Mysig berättelse om att finna en vän. Men också en berättelse om ensamhet och rädsla. Man är aldrig ensam.

This was wholesome! It starts a bit slow -- we spend a few too many pages with the protagonist on their own, head full of anxiety -- but once they go to the party and meet another ghost, that's when I started to get into the flow of things. The dialogue of these two characters is just more interesting to me than the internal monologue of the protagonist by themself.
Really appreciate the list of (UK-based) resources at the end of the book!
I just found out this is part of a trilogy so I'm putting the next volumes on my tbr rn brb.

Lize Meddings’s The Sad Ghost Club is the first book in her graphic novel series ‘The Sad Ghost Club’ which addresses teenagers mental health issues and the effects of stress on their lives. Mental health issues are becoming more prominent in young adults, (maybe due to our technology usage, the threat of climate change, society influences and the concerns of failure before life has even begun) and Meddings sad little ghosts show how crippling these things can be on top of the stress of the unknown future. The characters suffering from mental health issues are dressed as ‘invisible’ ghosts, only noticeable to one another. The two ghosts in this story suffer from depression, they struggle to get out of bed and motivate themselves to do anything. They meet at a party which neither wanted to attend and end up leaving feeling overwhelmed. Medding displays how intrusive thoughts can derail someone and affect their choices, damaging confidence and personal aspirations. Through Socks and SG meeting, they open up and share their struggles, showing the importance of talking about mental health. It shows perfectly how asking for help is essential to getting better. Together they start the Sad Ghost Club, creating a space for similar people to share their worries and mental health. The graphic novel features beautiful illustrations and heartwarming drawings, with an overall message of the importance of community support and sharing your struggles.
I loved the idea of dressing these characters as ghosts to show their invisibility and how they float from one scenario to another without notice. They’re looking for their place on earth and amongst one another. I’d love to read the next graphic novels in this series and see how the narrative evolves.
