I read the series so out of order LMAO but I'm working my way through the books I haven't read yet.
So we start out with Mei, Axe Man, and Cleo. Years ago Axe Man married Cleo's mom to save her from a terrible past. They never had a sexual relationship but he loved her dearly. In comes Mei, she and Cleo become friends quickly and since her parents are always gone on business she becomes a part of Cleo's family. One night they are at I believe a carnival when Cleo's mom is murdered in front of Mei.
The large majority of the book is about Mei and Axe Man avenging her death. At 17 Mei realizes she has romantic feelings for Axe Man, which at the time he doesn't reciprocate. Mei gets in with the group that killed Cleo's mom and when things come to a head Axe Man gets sent to prison covering for Mei. Mei is forced by her father to leave town, her mother passes away and she doesn't return for 8 years.
Mei gets a call that Cleo was brutally attacked by a serial killer and comes back immediately. Axe man though carries a lot of hate for her, as he believes she abandoned him and Cleo 8 years ago. He doesn't know the two of them stayed in contact. They have a HEAVY hate relationship for a large portion of the book where I felt like he honestly treated her like complete shit. Keep in mind she was still only 26. The girls in the MC and honestly most of the guys were really cold toward Mei because of Axe Man's feelings and while I respect the loyalty, no one, including Axe Man even asked if it was her choice to leave.
Then he finds out about her dad and is still on the fence about things which bothered me. She had to face imminent danger for him to be like omg be my old lady I love you. It pissed me off and honestly, the only one who treated Mei like she deserved was Cleo the whole time. I think she deserved a lot more and deserved big love. Still liked seeing all of the characters but Axe Man acted like a literal man-child.

Mei & Cleo have been best friends since they were kids, doing everything together. Since Mei’s parents were always busy and away Mei spent most of her time with Cleo and her family, kate her mom and Henning her step dad. One night when they were 12, the four were at a fair that ended in tragedy, with the murder of Kate and attempted murder on Mei. This bonded them even further, and with a promise Mei made. Over the years Mei and Henning developed a special bond, they understood and saw each other better than even Cleo could. At seventeen Mei was once again struck with tragedy, this ended with Henning in prison and Mei disappearing for eight years.
Now at 25 Mei is called back to Cleo’s side and vows to not leave her again until she orders her away. The only trouble is Axe-man, formerly Henning, hates Mei and wants her gone from his life. But there is always a thin line between love and hate.
I live for an age gap, this was a good one. Can’t beat Zeus & Loulou but a close second. I liked the relationship between Henning and Mei, but honestly I think the real love story is with Mei and Cleo, you always need that friend who has your back always no matter what and to mean this book was about sisterhood just as it was about romance.

Oh my gosh. For starters it felt SO GOOD to be back in this world with The Fallen men. Ugh I just love them all so much. While this story both in plot and romance didn’t quite go the way I was expecting, I really loved Mei & Axe-Man
