A fast-paced "battle royale" with an existential mystery at its heart, this thriller manga reads like a mashup of Squid Game and Lost. I found the "game" in part two to be nail-bitingly tense and skillfully plotted and visualized by the author/illustrator.

Exciting plot! I've decided I definitely prefer female main characters. But the world created here was exciting, well built, and kept me reading! I put it as fast paced as the only slowing down I did was due to not being used to manga (reads right to left) and most panels were action, action, action!

I've never actually read manga before, so this was a first for me. Loved the Netflix adaptation, so I thought I had to give it a go. This was a fun time, I liked seeing the differences between the show and the book, especially in how the characters are fleshed out. It felt super short though, I want to keep reading to see what happens next!

I saw that this title was available on Libby, so I decided to pick it up and see what this series is about.
“Alice in Borderland, Vol. 2” follows eighteen-year-old Arisu. Arisu is tired of his life and all of the people in it. He wishes he could go somewhere new and different, and simply just get a break. Unbeknownst to him and his friends, they find themselves in what they learn is a place called Borderland. They are initially excited because they seem to be the only people there. But that excitement turns into adrenaline and fear when they learn that they have to compete in rigged competitions in order to stay alive.
This manga series is rife with high action and violence. I was so engaged with what was happening, I did not want to put this down. Every scene felt high stakes, and I was worried about the characters and what they were about to go through. There is tension on every page, and you truly never know what is going to happen next, and who might not make it to the next competition.
I normally find myself reading, lighter manga series, but there is some thing that I am finding very engaging about this story. Arisu is highly intelligent, and he is able to think about problems in a way that a lot of the other characters cannot. He is a real asset to the group in Borderland. I highly enjoy seeing how his mind works, and trying to figure out the clues before he does.
I cannot wait to pick up volume two, and see what anarchy the characters have to endure next.

This sure was a pageturner. It's really nice to see how each puzzle unfolds and little by little we are getting more hints about what exactly Borderland and its games are. Throughout the story some characters are added and just by the way they are drawn out and written you know they will be important, giving the book even more mystery. A mystery I am eager to discover.

However some characters say things about women that made me feel rather uncomfortable and the idea of how horrible it should be to die a virgin sure is put in the spotlight. Until now I am not sure whether it is the author who wants to reflect upon these ideas or it's just once again sexism served on a golden plate.
