Just finished my third read of this book and it's just as good every time. The first time through, I was just trying to keep up with the story. The second time through I was busy being surprised by all the details and foreshadowing I didn't catch my first time through, and I was able to begin enjoying Shallan's character more since I was kind of bored by her in books one and two my first time through. In this read, I enjoyed being able to relax into the story more fully, and I found myself appreciating Adolin more than I have in the past.

Kaladin is still 100% my favorite, though.

Man, I almost didn’t make it through this one - the second quarter of the book really dragged for me. But halfway through? Once the story finished setting up, it never stopped and only kept ramping up. Why are these books so LONG?! Frustratingly amazing read.
ETA: The longer I sit with this book, the more I love and appreciate everything about it. This may actually be one of my favorite books. 5 Stars ⭐️

The only reason this isn’t five stars is because it was far longer than it needed to be. I was very bored, mind you. The story remained interesting and kept my attention even when it seemed to be stagnating around character history rather than moving the plot forward.

I rooted for Shallan and feared for Kaladin and just generally enjoyed the whole thing. More than I expected. I’m here for the rest of the series - I have no idea what will happen next.

Wow. As always, Brandon Sanderson has an incredible way with words and is one of the most skilled world builders I know.

Good - this story was engaging, and I felt like the last 500 pages all kept up a fast, intense scenes with some truly incredible reveals. The character development was nicely done and I love seeing everyone grow and falter.

The little extra bits from across Roshar remain very interesting, I love peeking into the other countries and possible radiants.

Also, other than Hoid I think I found another connection to the cosmere but I’m waiting to research lore until I’m caught up to avoid spoilers. Still super fun!

The bad- the first 40% of the book was a bit of a slog for me. I felt like this was all needed, but it was hard to go from way of kings to this.

Overall, an excellent continuation!
