This was a really gripping tale of a young man's adventure and how his life interweved with Alex's. Overall, I thought Krakauer did an excellent, if very rambly, job of showing how harrowing an adventure is and why so many young men whish to do so.

While I found them interesting, I found the many comparisons of Christopher McCandless to other adventurers or people who had ventured into the wild a little repetitive. I was reading this book in such fragments that I had no idea what was going on. 

Upon finishing it nearly 2 years later: 

I absolutely loved this. I wrote so many notes that I need to take time to process so I can collect my thoughts properly and give a full review.

Something about this book is so relatable to us all. The idea of forgetting society and rekindling your relationship with yourself and the earth. Trying to live independently away from the “poison of society” is so exhilarating… and this man actually went through with it. There is something so admirable about Chris that made me fall in love with his character. Krakauer’s use of story telling is exciting and thorough, the best it could possibly be. I was not once bored with this book because it made me think and  appealed to the adventurous side of me. I have 0 negatives from reading this book. Everyone should read Into The Wild.

This gives me proto-true crime vibes (not that there wasn't true crime back in the 90s but not with the same intensity like today). What I really liked from this book was that it showed that Chris McCandless isn't an isolated incident and that many young men have gone out into the wild and I think the author talking about his own experience gives the book an added layer.
