What a fucking trip.
This book was so hot, so good, I love the story for the characters, the story of their town. It was just an amazing world building for the story, so I’m very excited to get the other two books and continue to explore it.

My book club has primarily focused on thrillers this year, so I was eager to introduce a new genre into our discussions. Though this isn't my usual choice, I approached it with an open mind.

I found several aspects of the book quite enjoyable. The plot surprised me; I initially expected it to be primarily focused on the spice but I appreciated how the storyline developed. The persistent sense of threat added depth and contrast to the romantic moments.

I ended up enjoying the 🌶️ more than I anticipated, especially compared to other awkward romances I've read that didn't resonate with me.

However, there were some aspects that I found challenging to overlook. Although we know Leon is a demon and not meant to embody ideal human qualities, I felt uncomfortable with some of the underlying tones of misogyny in his dialogue. His referring to Rea as a possession, despite his nature, was particularly unsettling.

Rea's character also presented some inconsistencies for me. While she is portrayed as intelligent, she frequently finds herself in perilous situations. I can relate to being stubborn; it's a trait I share, but her choices often seemed reckless, especially considering the dangers involved.

Additionally, I noticed that several supporting characters lacked depth and backstory, which made them feel a bit one-dimensional. Zane was the only character who stood out to me in this regard.

Ultimately, I’m glad I ventured into this genre. I enjoyed the book more than I expected, and while there were notable issues, I remain open to exploring more stories like this in the future.
