The first thing I'm going to say is this book is way too long. It literally could have been cut in half and you wouldn't miss anything relevant. I literally found myself skimming every paragraph and getting genuinely pissed off at how unnecessarily long the sentences were. SO much repetition. We're reminded of Dianna and Gabby's sisterly relationship so much throughout the book it make me wanna bash my head in. WE GET IT, shut up and move on!!! Also the MMC's sexual past was brought up a lot of times it got annoying. Just these small points being brought up over and over again. 800+ pages of the same shit.
Also, the book was advertised as a "female villain" and "true enemies to lovers". Let me just say NONE of that was well done in this book. Dianna is not a villain, it's even said in the book by Liam. And the "enemies to lovers" was so cheap it was painful to read. I enjoyed the first few scenes between Dianna and Liam, they were actually giving me the vibe they hated each other. But after they make their deal and are forced to work together, it just becomes dull. Their conversations were so robotic there was absolutely no connection between them. Most of their scenes together are just corny insults or Liam "glaring" at her. (I genuinely think the world glaring was used like 200 times).
Then at the 50% mark, out of NOWHERE, a switch literally flips in Dianna after Liam has a nightmare and she requests that they be friends from here on out. This was so infuriating and so so lazy. The author really had to force their relationship so she pulls this Wattpad core outdated trope. There was literally no build up either.. one nightmare and they're suddenly friends. Liam has all this trauma from his dad and it's interesting at first but gets super overbearing, like there's a PTSD flashback nearly EVERY chapter. At this point I'm over it but force myself to keep reading. They meet up with Dianna's friends, Drake and Ethan and stay at their mansion for a few days. This whole time Liam is super jealous of Drake and Dianna and its honestly really annoying and immature. Like he spends the whole time whining. Also Dianna picks out this black dress and Liam decides its too slutty and makes her a new one, and this idiot Dianna is swooning over it. Then they go make a deal with a Camilla and she asks for a kiss from Liam to seal the deal. And he actually does it?? Right in front of Dianna. After getting so jealous about Drake, he kisses another woman right in front of her.. talk about hypocritical. Dianna gets shot and he basically saves her life, cue to the underwhelming, overhyped sex scenes. Oops, there was no actual sex. After that I just dropped it cause I was done. I went into this expecting a REAL enemies to lovers but was met with severe disappointment. It just went downhill after the halfway mark.

"I didn’t remember how long we talked, but somewhere amidst her laughter and smiles, I decided I would rip the world apart for her."
4.5/5⭐
Okay...sigh, another day, another book, another heartbreak. It took me sometime to get into this book, coz, well, it's longggg. I started getting into it around the 40% mark. And then, well, I got into it. Needless to say, this book is a stunning piece of work and now I'm obsessively searching for any and all Samkiel fanart.

I really struggled at the beginning of this book. It took around a hundred pages for the story to finally pick up and become interesting. The beginning of the book was very info dumpy and I struggled a lot with the terminology of the universe.
But once the main characters actually met, the pacing was also better and I was definitely intrigued.
So overall a pretty good first book and I hope the second one only gets even better.

The Book of Azrael was my first e-book and I absolutely could not put it down. Amber V. Nicole has blown my mind with Dianna. Dianna is one of the best written FMC I've read in absolutely ages. She reminds me of Celaena from Throne of Glass in the best ways; powerful, determined and strong.
This is the only series where I've actually enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers trope - Dianna and Liam's relationship is pure magic and the push and pull of emotions makes my heart sing.
The plot was there as well - well thought-out, executed and made me excited to continue reading. Worldbuilding was on point, along with the development of characters and the plot throughout.
The twists and the C L I F F H A N G E R ending absolutely destroyed me.

4.5 for me and that half star is purely as I felt it dragged slightly at some points.
But the rest…wow. This was a real slow burn/enemies to lovers and the world/magic system was incredible to read about.
Gave me big Underworld/Crescent City kind of vibes (just vibes, story not so much).
I absolutely loved how feisty Dianna was and I am really interested to read more about the “monster” she is.
Liam…ugh. Just another book boyfriend to add to the list. I loved how he became more vulnerable and open as the story went on.
The action scenes were so much fun to read.
The ending was not a huge shock, but has set up perfectly for the next book. I am really excited to see how far Dianna will go.
