It was interesting and I enjoyed reading about some real-life history as well. I felt like it was too long and too repetitive. I thought it was going to be more action-packed about her life and it ended up being slower-moving about her marriages and what she was doing with her money. Of course, it was also frustrating to read the woman's perspective during that time in history.
3.5⭐️
I truly enjoyed this book by Pataki. I find her writing style really pleasant and her books accurate to history. She paints a great picture of whatever setting her story is in and provides wonderful details that keep things moving.
Where I didn’t love this book as much as some others of hers was the focus on Marjorie’s husbands. I’m sure that during Marjorie’s life the focus of news written about her surrounded her social life and husbands more than work and philanthropy but I wanted more from the story. I’d have appreciated a bit more depth into both of these aspects of her life. A scene at a General Foods board meeting while not exciting would have been more enlightening for me.
I am inspired now to read some of the source material about Marjorie to get those details. Definitely a solid book by Pataki and one I’ll suggest to lovers of historical fiction but not one I’ll read again
