It is safe to say that Marjorie is an incredibly inspiring woman who we should know more about, however, this book leaves its reader lacking. Majorie’s life may have been fascinating, innovative, and ever changing, yet, Pataki does not display this. Instead the reader is left wanting more.

This was an excellent historical fiction book about a powerful, rich woman who let her core values guide her decisions, placing her in an instrumental position throughout history. Marjorie Post lived a long time, so this book offers glimpses of history across the entire 1900s. The author also writes settings so well, making you feel like you are in New York, DC, Palm Beach, Soviet Russia throughout the book.

While I thoroughly enjoyed “The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post”, it was more of a extremely well researched accounting/historical timeline of Marjorie’s life than a novel and therefore reads a lot like a biography.
Marjorie Post was heir to the Post Cereal Company, which would later grow into General Foods. She was married four times and while reading reading this, I couldn’t help but wonder what the other side of the story was; the husbands viewpoints.
Nevertheless, I learned a lot about Marjorie and her many lives and loved how much she donated; of her time, energy, and money to help those in need, honor her humble roots, and in an effort to strengthen American relationships with the rest of the world. Marjorie clearly understood that with wealth comes not only privilege, but responsibility.

I wanted to enjoy this book; however I struggled to like the female main character. I felt that she was whiny and entitled throughout most of the book.
I only finished since it was a book club pick.
