Not nearly as powerful and compelling as the original trilogy, but still a fun, fast-paced read. It’s great to have more content from the same universe and some overlap of characters.

I absolutely loved jumping back into Anne Bishop’s world again! When it comes to characters and witty banter, she really can’t be beat. While this story was somewhat predictable, I still enjoyed every moment of the somehow brutal yet sweet story!

This is a book that has to do with the Blood, but it includes different characters with little interaction of those in the Black Jewels Trilogy. Well written, and a good story about how life is affected in a different part of the realm with different people.

Really enjoyed this. There were some parts that dragged (aka the subplot that was just there to show the depravities of Dorothea and her court). I wish it had just stuck to Jared and the Gray Lady. There was a bit of a mystery and I guessed the wrong person, but I think I was supposed to guess the wrong one lol. As for this being a prequel, I think it should be read after the first three, otherwise it gives away a big plot point, though I do with there was a clear timeline mentioned in this. Like how far into the future is Daughter of the Blood? Idk I can’t tell lol
I also wish there was a map! Why are there no maps of this world????? There are three realms and I can’t find a single map online for all of them!

Anyway, will be keeping this lol the original three have awesome covers but the redesigned covers are a bit soulless, I wish I was skilled enough to draw/design new covers and then rebind this and the future books I have lol

In part I blame this book for why I read Tangled Webs. This book was so good! So amazing for being another book in the series, but not part of the original trilogy. So many books that continue "trilogies" are terrible. But this was every bit as good as the original three books. This book has wonderful new characters, and it let Sadi from the trilogy be just a cameo, something Tangled Webs failed at (but more on that on the Tangled Webs review page). The characters are compelling, the story is desperate, and there is a good mix of pleasure and pain. This book is very much worth reading, and adds to the lore that makes up the original trilogy.

This was the perfect book to wrap up the Anne Bishop series that I've been reading. It was a nice transition because the characters from the previous book were gone, but the crazy world she created was still present, so it was like acclimating myself to life without the series. Now I have to pick a new book! It's going to be difficult after these ones.

Didn't get to read this book in the intended order because my library didn't have it available at the time, so I skipped and circled back later. Not completely departing from our main storyline at that point in time, we get to focus on a different part of The Blood Realms. New characters, old friends and enemies are central to the story but it doesn't need background aside from the guide given in every book. It would help if you did read the other books first to understand the relationship with people but I can read this trilogy without reading the other first.

Reread almost done!
