3.5 - Definitely hugely suspenseful and thrilling at points but I did feel like it dragged on a little too long. I definitely hated Detective Underwood, which was the point, but it made it hard to listen to at points.

Friends Like These is a young adult suspense novel. A young girl has been missing ever since she threw a big party while her parents were out of town. As the police question the last people to see her alive, the reader discovers that all of her alleged friends may have a reason to make her disappear. I enjoyed this novel very much. I think it did what most YA novels fail at- the author wrote realistic teenagers without making them too annoying. The novel jumps around in time and from point of view which can be confusing if you are trying to rush. Overall I thought it was suspenseful and interesting I would recommend it!

So. Many. Twists!!! Teagen Sheffield is hosting the final party of the summer right before the start of senior year in their small Northern California beach town. She invites her ex-boyfriend Jake, who of course brings his current girlfriend Jessica. Teagen and Jessica have a lot of history, going all the way back to 5th grade. Teagen and her friends have special plans for Jake, which shocks everyone at the party. As everything spirals out of control, Teagen is missing, Jessica's world crumbles around her, and Jake remembers nothing of that night. The number of reveals and twists throughout the book are amazing, all the way up to a huge twist at the end. Highly recommended for grades 9 & up.

4 stars- This covered a lot of hard topics! Wow! but in a very compassionate way. I did really enjoy the story, the twists, and turns, not the character's suffering. But it did end differently than I thought it would, for once I didn't know who the murderer was right away! LOL So I was surprised, but it all made sense. Overall a lot of messed up people doing messed up things to each other. High school now sounds like hell!
Graphic: Alcoholism, Bullying, Cursing, Infidelity, Sexual assault, Sexual content, Toxic relationship, Violence, Vomit, Grief, Toxic friendship, and Alcohol
Moderate: Death, Drug use, Blood, Death of parent, Murder, and Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Cancer

For fans of Karen McManus and anyone who likes twists in their tales, Friends Like These is a story where you can never wholly trust the characters who are sharing their story.
Our main focus is rich girl Tegan, former friend of Jessica and ex of Jessica’s boyfriend, Jake. Her parties are synonymous with excess, but her end of summer party becomes known for all the wrong reasons.
It’s not giving anything away to say that this group of classmates have a long and complicated history. Things come to a head on the night of Tegan’s party when she kisses her ex and ends up having sex with him…but the whole thing is filmed and shared with their classmates downstairs (including Jake’s girlfriend). When Tegan goes missing the night after the party, people are quick to judge.
Before we know it, bodies are found in the sea. There’s a lot of background to this story, that seems a little distracting but is actually crucial to our understanding of what happened. We learn that a number of people are lying about their involvement in the evening’s events, and once things are wrapped up it made me very pleased to not be a teen today.
